Since Tuesday night’s victory, it has been an endless whirlwind of more than a hundred phone calls and more than double that in emails and text messages. This is the first chance I have gotten to express my gratitude for your help and support.
I did not win this race – we did. I truly believe that this victory could not have been accomplished had one piece been missing: every Cup of Joe hosted, every door knocked, every lit dropped, every poll worked, every hand shook, every prayer offered and every vote cast.
Together, we have changed politics as usual. For the first time, Montgomery County residents will have a leader who was opposed by both political parties but chosen by the people.
Running against the party establishment, I heard nearly everyday how I was “making a lot of enemies.” In truth, I have made more friends then I could ever ask for. Old friends who stood by me during the hard times and new friends who came to offer a hand when others turned their backs.
You not only supported me but you supported my family who was as much in this race as I was.
As Montgomery County Commissioner, I will work as hard as I can each and every day to make you proud to say you supported me. My number one goal is to never let you down.
As I finish this note, I realize I will never be able to thank you enough.
